I couldn't agree more and I've been in this same situation. When your codebase is hundreds of thousands of lines of JavaScript suddenly promises with async await make a lot of sense.
Great advise! I wanted to add a bit more to it. As you age the number of novel experiences and "space" for those experiences in your brain decreases. So the first 20 years of your life you accumulated a lot of new experiences while your brain was growing an expanding. For this reason it feels like you lived in regular time. Your final 20 years will mostly be nothing new and what is new will largely include a base that is shared based on past experiences. This is why as you get older time moves faster.
Me and all my friends have used signal for years. What do you mean you gave up? I've never had any issues and it beats the hell out of text. Like I said, I communicate with probably 15 people at least daily consistently via IM and 3 of those are text the rest signal.
What does your comment even mean? A lot of people get angry about a lot of things but the solution is what exactly? Based on your statement I would assume your suggestion is "they shouldn't be free to have their own rules and do what they want" because...?
The end of eternity by Issac Asimov touches on this. I believe the analogy is that of a bird being left behind by earth as it flies through the air because earth is moving through space. So as you travel through time you move in time with whatever it is you're traveling on, I guess is the argument the book makes.
You're spot on about the 5 year difference. I never thought I would see my shit box I bought a few years ago for more than I ever thought it was worth triple in value. It's literally the difference of 5 years as you said. I want to be part of the pray for the collapse team but I know good honest people who would be devastated by it. People who are just victims of the system.
As you said in your comment there is a market for renting. I think in an ideal world, housing prices would not increase so rapidly. I remember a time where houses went up a lot more from quality renovations than just waiting a few months. A situation like that would increase the demand on rent and make it less appealing for slumlords and give them more incentive to keep quality tenants happy instead of viewing them as a space filler until you can cash out in a year.
You're not in some minority, that's a new phone every three years and is in line with the market. Also, who are you buying from that is supporting their software for that long? I think I've gotten maybe 2 years of updates if in lucky with anyone but Google. So you've admitted you're upgrading because of software features. This is the entire issue. I still play triple A games at 1440p 144hz on a 10 year old PC with a 2700k and see no reason to upgrade because of software. Infact, my computer doesn't support windows 11 and that's a blessing imo. My laptop is a t440p which is almost 10 years old and I've never needed to upgrade because of software. I run Windows 10 fine and arch even better. I can play some games and stream the rest. The planned obsolescence of cell phones is not about hardware, it's about software and advertising. Nobody should need to have a new phone every two years.
It's not the wage that needs to change it would be the prices of housing in the city. This can't change because it's not determined by some governing body. It's called gentrification. It's currently happening to me. I could not afford to buy my house now and I just bought it a few years ago. Of course there still needs to be staff in the area working retail etc. but I haven't seen anyone over 25 in a store near me for over a year.
I don't agree with you fully. Async most certainly always returns a promise and as such can easily be combined with promise functions, like Promise.all. Your understanding of stack traces on promises is also old/uninformed. I work on an enterprise grade node app that was started back in node 0.11. Bluebird, which was what one used, offers good stack tracing and improved stack tracing has been available for async await for a few years now. Infact, I don't think I have had to go out of my way to get a decent stack trace in about a year or more now. There are certain paradigms you can adopt that keeps promise chains clean just like you would adopt with callbacks. I can't comment on if async await was implemented poorly as you are certainly more knowledgeable there with the RFC you shared.
I have not actively used Reddit in over a year and am better for it. Their design is one of the most hostile I have seen in a website. I wish it was an area that allowed for competition because someone needs to give Reddit's head a shake.
I think it's real and it makes sense. Look at the post. It reads borderline iamverysmart. He says people who work way harder making making less money but clearly has something going on with his own brain to assume that. I know someone whose worked hard their entire life and they run a small CNC shop. They're a multi millionaire. I know people who are software developers who bust their ass 12-16 hours a day for half of my own salary at the same company. The OPs issue is 100% their own issue and they have to work through it. Superiority complex is strong.
If you actually watch the video you can see they are no longer allowed to upload content so I think you're wrong. It's also going to be very difficult to host anything when the government has a total crackdown on internet. You host some videos of war there and I can guarantee it would come back to you very quickly.
