As someone who didn't have his own computer till senior year of high school, I don't really understand what you mean. This has nothing to do with being afraid of the internet. They're taking measures against foreign hackers (more correctly crackers) who use the internet for all the wrong reasons.
The NSA thing is less being afraid of the internet and more gaining intel from it. And they would rather have you on the internet doing shady stuff than not on it and doing shady stuff as they can penetrate you better. NSA is wrong but they would gain intelligence through various means regardless of whether the internet existed. But it really is only criminals and people up to no good who should fear this kind of legislation.
I like to differentiate between 3 kind of ideas:
- Fun ideas: These are ideas like the tiny dog firing catapult that you just throw around for fun and for the kicks. Not a lot of people appreciate them and some take them too seriously and call you stupid.
- Good & Simple Ideas: These would be achievable and simple ideas. Characteristic of them is that they are exothermic and have low energy barriers. Things like Windows, Google etc would fall into this. They were not super big or super ambitious and were logical progressions but were achievable. Finding one of these that someone is not already working on is hard.
- Great Ideas: These are ideas that are highly exothermic but require high activation energy. If you try this without already being successful you're going to have a hard time sleeping.
I don't think that tinkering with mechanical systems and electrical systems is that much different. If you don't understand how the brakes work, you probably shouldn't tinker with them anyways. The same goes for any other system of the car including electrical systems. There is potential for fraud, however, by playing with the odometer etc. But that potential has existed ever since odometers began their use and they have actually become more secure.
That being said, this should be firmware anyways and very hard to modify for the average or even above average person.
Well for every ipod there are thousands of products that fail. Anyways, nobody is saying that it will not be big. Just that this is not super-ground breaking technology that it is going to create its own market. Virtual reality has, of course, a large number of possible uses. Who knows what will work and what won't. But I do not see myself using a search engine on it or surfing the web or checking my email. Browsers would be great, don't get me wrong, but it's very likely that what we will do on the VR browsers will be a small selection of what we do online. Virtual reality stores may become big and creating 3d versions of products would be a whole new thing but most of these things may be more app-based or will be shared.
I use gmail everyday on my phone and have not bothered with downloading its app. It is pointless as I get a good enough experience on the browser and I do not want to deal with updates.
And native apps are good for things like Microsoft Office or things you expect to use offline and frequently. But if you make me download an app for Facebook or gmail and get me to update it every now and then, I will get pretty annoyed.
Got rejected. Am a lone founder. They watched my video for the full time so I have that going for me. My website's front page wasn't pretty at all so that probably worked against me.
I was at a top 10 grad school till 2 months ago. An assistant professor here wrote a paper which was a minimalist increment over her PhD work. Something you would expect to see in PlOs One but got published in Cell. I know of people in lesser ranked and less prestigious schools who have trouble getting more impacting papers accepted.
I agree it would be a lot easier and plausible for the biomedical sciences and for material/organic/inorganic synthesis. Certainly the theory work will be done by scientists and the design of experiments. Hmmm I wonder for people developing equipment if we could write a whole bunch of plugins that allow a robot to construct different modules of equipment from raw materials and a built-in 3D printer. Again theory and design by the scientist but won't have to spend hours building and testing each component. There are very few scientists I have met or heard speak, and I am at a top 10 grad school, that are doing any method/technology development that are a huge leap from pre-existing science and technology.
Give the rat a label that binds specifically to those tissues and guide the robot to the tissue using that. Self-guided robots to be used in surgery are being developed and if I remember currently there is one available for a very minor form of neurosurgery that involves sticking a very thin needle into the skull. What you need a robot for is very much possible and FYI they will be able to do it with better precision and less contamination.
From what I understand X-cart and Magento already address this with PayPal and quite possibly Stripe. And if you're coding your own website you might as well use Stripe's API.
These are all great but not realistic given the current competition and the academic mindset I have seen here. Many of my fellow graduate students consider robotics to be the future of how science will be done as most, if not all, of the work done in the lab can be done by robots. We need cheap and open-source liquid handling robots with a well documented platform. The labs of the future will not require man labor except but to think and that means scientists will be ask to publish a standardized protocol file with any plugins they used and all other labs will have to do is run that file and provide the materials. That will make replication incredibly easy and cheap.
Just dump the leaves in the ocean. Biodegradable and the salt came from the ocean anyways. The leaves if too concentrated will intake a lot of water and their cells burst. Or the leaves won't be too concentrated and will be eaten by nature.
