I'm sure that in future iterations of project glass, the controls and icons will move off to the side and be relatively inconspicuous... to make room for the ads that will be displayed front and center.
Um. Just opening your eyes and looking around also shows you all the females in the area. There's nothing creepy about it. And what exactly is it that these supposedly not-smart-enough women need to be defended from? You sound like a raving, paranoid sexist.
You mean the OP's example is contrived in the same way as writing a program that takes no user input, and does nothing but print the string "hello world"? It doesn't even use data to solve a problem! How is that a good illustration of the use of algorithms?
How is it "creepy" to know the public information about the people around you? Because women need to be protected from men? I think the sexist idea here is that men are "creeps", and nothing more.
As a man, I can approach/stalk any woman, anywhere, anytime, or vice versa. Nobody needs an app to do it, so doing it with this app is not any more "creepy" than it was without the app.
I don't think that's a bizarre request. FTP is one of the few reliable and free ways for users to transfer files between each other, which is the space that dropbox and google drive are/will be competing in. So it's just a question of interoperability.
Why should I have to download a file from an ftp server before re-uploading it to to the cloud rather than doing a direct transfer, especially in an era of local bandwidth caps, mobile computing etc?
Exactly! And not only can you map out specific bits of computation in a car engine, you might even be able to see/find ARBITRARY bits of computation in the world around you.
So what are the implications if for any given sequence of logical operations that represent an algorithm being executed, you can find a mapping for that sequence in the real world if you look for it? If "consciousness" is reducible to computation, it follows that consciousness is anywhere you choose to see it. Something doesn't add up there.
I don't have a problem with people posting their opinions, but your comment offends me and I found it underwhelming. Not because of what you said, but your intentional attitude.
So I'm going to complain about it, because saying "I'm offended" is my admission that I can't control my emotions, so the rest of the world should do it for me.
