Well yes, if you stick to a purely physicalist framework then determinism is fair to defend, but you incur in a lot of debatable compromises to be able to stick to physicalism, and most of the philosophers (if not all) that defend free-will are not physicalists. And even then, if you are a hard determinist, there are fair objections such as Huemer's(1) minimum free will proof, which defends that determinism is self refuting.
If one filesystem gets full, you still can do some work on the others. You can also more easily umount a filesystem to fsck without the need of booting a live media. You can mount filesystems with different flags, like readonly on /boot to prevent accidents.
Modern smartphones do this, on Android for example you are able to find a filesystem for system binaries generally mounted readonly, a filesystem for the base OS and system apps, another filesystem for user installed apps. If a rogue app fills the entire filesystem it's resided, the system apps can still function.
Honestly, what drove me away from it was the fact that the whole DE seems to run on a single thread, meaning that any extension or animation going on the top panel, or anything else on the interface for that matter, creates microstutters in the compositor.
I have a relatively beefy machine (AMD FX 8 cores @4.4GHz, R9 290x GPU), if I have an application running at 60fps (something really simple like glxgears) and I click on any panel menu (like the calendar), the application stutters.
I'm now using Budgie, haven't looked back since I've tried it.

Global Menus is unfortunately something that I still miss, although I was able to recover some screen space with an Extension called Pixel Saver, which merges the window control bar with the panel by removing the window decorations and adding the buttons to the panel. Not ideal, but useful.
Kind of unrelated, but dolphins and aliens remind me so much of Ecco the Dolphin for the Sega Genesis, one of the most unsettling games I've ever played.

Stick Control is basically fine motor coordination and a bit of limb independence exercises, even if you are not a drummer, practicing stick control will improve your "handling" in any instrument. Or even in unexpected things, for example, while driving, I find heel-toeing very easy and natural (brake with right foot toe, press the clutch with left foot, change gear with right hand while steering with the left hand, rev-match with the right foot heel, let go of the clutch) probably because I've played the drums for almost 22 years now.
In the same note, as a fellow drummer, I can say that drummers that study melodic instruments tend to play their instruments serving the music way better. Piano is probably my second preferred instrument, I've always wanted to learn it, if you can guide to some starting material or equipment, I'd be happy to hear!
Also, for any apps that have group chats, I like to disable notifications for them. If someone really needs to contact me, they can send a direct message, or @ me, otherwise I will only check the group chat when I have the time or patience to do so. Or maybe I'm just getting old and stressed.
WhatsApp is huge in Brazil, even businesses now offer a WhatsApp number for contact. Maybe that's a by-product of Apple devices being too expensive here.
SMS is mainly used for bank alerts, confirmation codes, advertisement and scammers. I personally haven't used SMS for conversation in years.
I recommend Privacy Badger, sponsored by the EFF, which is supposed to block trackers. I prefer it over Ghostery, which is backed by some company.
uBlock Origin is great for blocking Ads though. If you really need to block scripts, there's NoScript.
I recommend using at least the adblocker and the tracker blocker, even if only to reduce memory usage of the browser and take back a couple of CPU cycles from your computer stolen by pesky ads.
Things are improving over time, even if slowly. With more people using Linux distros, the incentive to improve the desktop parts is greater.
Kernel support is improving too. AMD is contributing to the open source amdgpu driver now, Intel's open source driver is one the most supported among distros.
And what if a Linux Desktop ends up being better than Windows at some point in the future, well, why won't you use the best tool you have available?
As absurd as it looks, Microsoft in some part seems to be helping make Linux more attractive. I can tell because of my younger brother, he is constantly complaining of Windows shenanigans (forced upgrades, inconsistent performance, disk space usage, some kind of 30fps cap that he needs to fix on regedit sometimes).
He tried CS:GO in my Linux box and liked that it just worked, apparently ran smoother, and according to him the OS itself seemed simpler. He wants to try Linux on his computer now with my help. Let's see how that will work out, but still, it's a start.
Most of the big game engines were ported to Linux at this point, so it has become easier for developers to target these platforms. There are multiple AAA titles running natively on Linux, with comparable performance to their Windows counterparts (some people have noticed even better performance).
I've been playing older titles that now have official Linux versions, like Bioshock, Metro 2033. Let me tell you, I would never have predicted I'd be playing AAA titles natively on Linux.
