The post did not say that the item had any inherent value, it simply stated that making money from demand was a good thing. Additionally, the post qualified "As long as you abide by the law".
I seem to recall he even has a brief section on fiction. Of course I may have an older edition, or simply be misremembering it... probably time to read it again.
I think the fact that there is a version, however impoverished, of your idea already out in the wild indicates that you're not crazy.
