@puzzledpenguin Thanks for the game. I played the other version before you migrated it here. Is it possible the dictionary is too small? I noticed a number of repeats across days/playing marathon mode that made it easier.

You might be interested in the work of Thomas Metzinger [0]. He works on consciousness and addresses some of the issues you mention regarding effort & different states that people have experienced/described w/ meditation etc. Eg [1] works towards profiling "pure awareness" experiences among meditators of various stripes. Scroll down to '(3) Peer-reviewed articles' on his page for addl recent research.
He has a dense academic tome called "being no one: the self-model theory of subjectivity" that works through a theory of an 'emergent phenomenological self' [2]. A shorter book discussing the issues is "ego tunnel: the science of the mind & the myth of the self" [3]. It is intended for lay audience & is very readable. fun stuff.

I'm sorry if you had this experience with palliative care for your relatives; it really doesn't have to be that way and hasn't been my experience. In fact, low quality PC in your area may reflect that the industry there is ripe for innovation.

in general, no. E.g., a child with a high fever will dissipate more energy than a child without a fever over the same time period. who is more likely to survive?
We can even consider a specific type of dissipation that an organism uses to store memories (longer lifetime of memory = less reversible = requires more dissipation), there's no guarantee that the memories stored will be useful for survival. storing a memory that lasts 100 years costs dissipation that could be better spent elsewhere for an organism that typically lives 1 week...
but with appropriate restrictions on what is meant by dissipation, organism, ... the timescales involved, the driving ... then the reverse statement can be true "more likely evolutionary outcomes" <among all possible trajectories of configurations of 'organisms'> "are going to be the ones that absorbed and dissipated more energy from the environment’s external drives on the way to getting there.”
