ubuntu server. you get all of the core competencies of ubuntu without any imposition of UI. you can install a wm easily post-install without the tweaking required to get stock desktop ubuntu to use an alternate wm
he is holding ubuntu to a different standard. he expects ubuntu to install on arbitrary hw, but he's willing to buy a dedicated "just works" device for osx. well, they do sell these for ubuntu as well.
no linux distro will install on arbitrary hw. nor will osx.
why stop there? put your sneakers on and go for a multi-mile hike in an open space. no phones (they don't work out in the woods anyway), no computers. just you and your thoughts.
this could only happen in ubuntu, not in osx or windows or android. apple and microsoft and google all have turf wars, ownership issues, and general crankiness that precludes any meaningful and neutral integration of the web into the desktop
every webgl demo i run brings my mac-pro system to its knees, and this is to run demos that would be considered state of the art for 2004. i don't see this becoming the standard deployment model for games
i applaud the effort that demonstrates the technical chops of the coders who can wring stuff like this out of browsers, but lets be honest here, html5 games are only viable if we dramatically lower our expectations. valve and others have already created a de-facto network standard for games...the games available there are what is in fact state-of-the-art, and what you need to beat to create a truly compelling product
bringing moose into the core of perl would be a major undertaking but would be an absolutely fantastic major upgrade for the language...it would address my major gripe with moose - the deplorable performance (yes i know about mouse and mo etc)
yes, you own the improvements, but the point of stipulating you as a TENANT is to permit the county to make and enforce rules, since your improvement is ultimately on their land. not much to argue here, counties have been making and enforcing rules for centuries, there is no loophole to exploit
this is why, for example, foreclosure evictions often involve the sheriff's office - the county is protecting their own property rights. also, mineral rights, right to dispose of hazardous waste, etc etc

yes folks, the county has permitted you to enter into an agreement to make improvements on the land and resell that right to others. the county "owns" the land. most first-time home buyers are surprised to find out that they actually are only considered tenants
ever had a neighbor who suddenly decides to stop caring for their property? when you live eighteen inches away from them, it matters. this is the allure of an HOA for some - it enforces minimal standards. you are of course free to not live there if you think its too uptight
