This was the release that got me to migrate from 1P to Keychain. Keychain finally has enough features and the 1P’s browser extension has been finicky for me and the UX of 1P8’s desktop app feels like a considerable downgrade from 7.
Not sure how it remotely looks “awful and alienating”. It looks like basically every recent language to me (swift/kotlin/rust/typescript). I feel like you just saw something that has the same numeric type names as Rust and jumped to conclusions.
You’re basically describing Swift. Swift and Rust had a ton of cross pollination during their early years which led to those features developing similarly but memory management is a lot less targeted for extreme efficiency like Rust. Hopefully as the language continues to mature, the feasibility to use it outside of apple platforms also does because I really enjoy the language design.
Apple Watch was probably the largest launch since Jobs died, and now it’s the dominant smart watch. Apple Silicon breathed new life into the mac lineup. AirPods have become the standard bluetooth earbuds. I think apple has been doing great with new products recently (after struggling in the late 2010s, as shown by their extreme emphasis on services instead of products then) and I hope they keep that momentum instead of compromising on ads.
Microsoft can’t seem to kick the old Microsoft no matter how hard they try. They embraced, extended, and now are extinguishing with the python extension.
I think he used to be a better interviewer. Over the last couple years I think he has confused having people with interesting things to say on his shows with him having interesting things to say. Now he interrupts guests more frequently and puts less effort into actually understanding them.
