We measure a small sample of AppStore and Play Store searches. Since the sample size is small, we can't really nail down exact search counts, but we can give relative estimates.
Mamadou,
Just curious, are you going to continue to refine Empire of Sudoku, or are you going to move on to other apps, like LiberTweet or perhaps other ideas?
Hi Pierre, nice blog post. Thanks for sharing your insights.
I was looking at your AppStore SEO. Like you mentioned, your position for "spelling" has dropped a lot. But there are other phrases where your positions are rising nicely...
For "crossword game for kids" you've gone from 10th to 7th in the past few weeks.
And your Android version has a few phrases moving up too...
For the phrase "kids words" you've risen 6 places, from 23rd to 17th. I know 17th isn't awesome, but that's a fairly popular search phrase, so at least you're moving in the right direction.
I added AirPush to one of my free apps, and triggered a firestorm of one-star reviews. After pushing an update that removed AirPush, several users actually took the time to go back and revise their one-star review up to 5 stars.
Never underestimate the passion app users have about ads. I suppose a lot of us devs have learned this lesson the hard way.
I was going to launch something similar http://www.appstoretools.com as a fun little side project this weekend... But if Chomp is worth $50M, maybe "side project" is not the right way to think of it?
I second the suggestion for StartupWeekend. You can come and go as you please, so if you're not digging the vibe, you can split. Plus, even if you stay for the entire time, you've only invested one single weekend.
If you don't want to wait for the event to hit your hometown again, attend one in a nearby city.
Also, I'd go become a member of a co-working office space and hang out there and mix and mingle. Startup folks and the nicest and most-helpful I've ever met.
