Eventually the data will be sold by <someone> (more likely a bunch of <someones> to support, say, addictions, etc., if we don't stop it. That will severely (and unpredictably) impact everyone's bottom line.
I think everyone is overlooking a significant threat. If we have information that is shared, we know when it is changed. The NSA has data that is not necessarily shared, so if the top people decide to "do you in", such as Obama and Romney, they have only to "edit" the data - and you have no way of proving they didn't. Meanwhile, we know the FISC will accept whatever NSA gives them as the absolute truth.
I think everyone is missing the most important point, the one that history teaches. The enormous power surveillance brings (not the least being the fact that a little "creative editing", ala the Nazis, will allow <anyone> to become both interesting and guilty of <something>). With that much power, even if <bad stuff> is not happening now, it will happen sooner or later; and then it will be too late!
