This is not specific to HN. It is has something to do with browser rendering. I also noticed same on YouTube few times. Something to do with chromium rendering, but seems like this isn't common hence it does not have official name yet. Maybe a good time to name it? :-)
There are few other issues with how websites implemented it. For example, at work, appleid or few apple domains are banned (they wanted to ban iTunes streaming etc.) when I tried to login into Pocket (Read It Later) [Web Version], due to this blocking, the whole login form get hidden once page load complete, and I cannot even login with my username and password.
I don't think issue is with browsers, it is with websites getting more and more complicated. It's ironic that people (web dev) who are complaining about browser, are actually root cause of problem.
Quick solution can be if website is trying to act as "app", should only be app, leave web for just reading hypertext and links. Any lightweight browser can handle that.
But again we will have to draw an imaginary line between websites and apps.
AirPods on Windows 10 is really a disaster, after listening for while, it will go mute randomly (then requires reconnecting), and sometimes sound doesn't match to the other side of pair, few milliseconds apart - which will again require reconnecting. Hence I had to stop using it.
I use Instapaper for not just "read later" feature but as bookmarking too to later refer it. It has single level folders for organizing. Searched can be done on page title or cached copy of page.
As your solution is self hosted, it is good. Wish I knew Go tools to use it.
Offtopic: Just a reminder to always remove GPS info from personal photos that are to be uploaded to internet. Photo in post gives me GPS coordinates on Westview Dr in Lake Oswego, OR.
If we are so concerned about our privacy or encryption, we should not make such mistakes.
