I guess this makes sense if you're visiting NY and you're only going to use the subway a few times. If you live in the city though you're probably just refilling the same card over and over. Then the logic of filling the card up doesn't hold up. you should go for the largest "bonus" you can get and try not to lose that card!
As a bay area tech worker I'm hurt twice by this. First I'm robbed of access to a beautiful beach and second my standing in the community is tarnished further. With leaders like Perkins and Khosla I can hardly blame bay area natives for thinking we're all entitled and out of touch. The worst part is we have to take the brunt of the rage while we get on the bus to make more money for these people.
The comments on the Washington Post site are really a sight to behold.. I don't know who's worse, all the conservative/liberal commenters or the apple/android commenters.
The problem with python's website was never that it wasnt "Sexy" enough to attract newcomers. Its that the documentation was never as well written or well organized as other languages/libraries like ruby and jQuery.
The site looks great and I'm curious how your indexing all those docs to be searched so quickly. However I also feel obliged to tell you to stop encouraging people to use PHP =p
I worked as a software engineer for their CIO division for a little while and the "2015 Deadline" is something everyone was acutely aware of. In fact when I left my manager was most concerned that if he didn't fill the spot immediately he would lose the headcount forever.
I agree that part of it is about trying to control a creative process but when it breaks down the author totally wipes his hands clean of any responsibility. Acting like "sabotaging the product" is an acceptable way to behave.
No, its the only way he could imagine someone behaving and its all the fault of the "Lousy young programmer" and the "Marketing types" with their "power neckties". The fact off the matter is that people who cannot adapt to change in a company are a poison and the biggest mistake that management made, was that they weren't able to replace him with more stable and mature (albeit slightly less creative) professional sooner.
I can't count the number of articles like this that I have read. I reject the idea that these old anti-social trolls are the only ones capable of sustaining a company. That all young hungry people are bad and we noble veterans are constantly getting the short end of the stick.
Furthermore the article is clearly biased and relies on purely anecdotal evidence. Perhaps it's the authors inability to work with others and cope with younger coworkers success which is the problem.
