It sees this was never on HN, which is surprising, given how much psychological, wellbeing related content is on HN.

After almost two years of (net) work which took me more than a decade (interrupted), I can finally say that I am thorough and this works and highly recommended. There are a lot of disorders that I thought I had but ultimately it seems that all of these are my coping mechanisms that worked when I was a child but drags me down as an adult. Hopefully someone finds this helpful.

All these items seems remote, sometimes funny or interesting until I recognize my friend's very passport.

A game that had 2mm++ downloads free / paid since 2012. It's an online game with players still playing although well beyond it's peak. Since 2013 we pivoted from making games to it services and had not much time to make significant changes other than updating to newer iOS. It still generates about 2-3k yearly revenue which is a good bonus in central Europe.

Just get started with something simple and gradually increase / add complexity. Nowadays there are really great engines that pave your way. Do make good use of them. Any of them will teach you about the game loop, gfx, control, sound, ai etc subsystems that needs to work together to deliver an experience for your players. Also do read about game design. I personally liked Jessie Schell's Art of game design book with the 100 lenses that helps younalong the way.

14 years ago, when low cost flights became popular in Europe with Ryanair, I moved to London with a friend for a year. To get the cheapest price, we had run a simple perl crawler in a cronjob to monitor the prices and it sent us a text over some free api. We didn't realize that time that this could have been a massive service and over the years many businesses basically executed on the same basic idea.

As others have said earlier, if the new tools serve the problem domain better there will be significant gain.

My first game server was hand crafted with php/mysql. It did work and was able serve players, however moving to Erlang allowed two order of magnitude more players onto the same box, while the code maintainability increased as well.

back in the days when we were making ios games we would send out a lot of promo codes to various youtube reviewers with followers between 100-10k. it was getting popular back then so we didnt paid for nor offered money for the review although few replied back and asked for it. well more like a paid service than affiliate. a few days later we experiences a spike that originated from a reviewer we never heard back.

As others have said, make it free. If it's paid now try to approach appgratis and pay them back with cross promotion.

While your game is free make sure they spread the word on any of the social sites and also get the players who like your game rate it in the AppStore.

Also try to get in contact with other indie game devs and cross promote with them.
