I love F1, but driving on a closed track (or highways, for what matters) is many orders of magnitude easier than dealing with traffic, people, bikes, other drivers, etc. BMW created this many years ago, and the car was better than most drivers already. Advancing track days doesn't really help much on bringing cars to cities.
I read that 4 years ago, spent another 4 months reading the listed studies, convinced myself it was a good plan, and lost 40 pounds with no exercises. I still do LCHF after all these years, and likely will never go back to a traditional diet, it feels great.
I've been eating LCHF for almost 4 years now, I started doing it to lose weight, but I feel so much better when on diet that is hard to stop.
When I'm firm on the diet, I can easily go a full day without any food, and not feel any hunger or mood swings. It's great.
If there was a bug in the old version that is not compatible with the latest, there was no way to fix it anyway. This change doesn't solve that issue, but it solves 99% of the cases I deal with, which is old users complaining they can't get the app they bought after a release drops an old iOS version.
Nice of you to recognize the thing is not targeted at absolutely everybody, like absolutely every other method of transportation. People here seem to be forgetting that.
Same thing can technically be said about a HSR or a plane. You can't stop the train/plane because somebody got sick, and although you have a bathroom, and although the extra space helps, the resources you have inside the car/plane are very scarce anyway.
Yet, very few people die inside those things nowadays.
He makes the point that he doesn't need to block 100 feet from each side of the track, as well as put barriers in place to prevent animal crossing and blocking farmers from getting to the other side of the farm, in the same way power lines today use space. That means he would need some non-farmable area around the track, yes, but that it wouldn't disrupt the farm like a normal HSR track would.
Not only that, but they would also use a lot of technology that Tesla/SpaceX now has a lot of experience in: battery, eletric engines and turbines, the metal for the ski pads, etc. There's a reason why he is making the plan completely free: he has a lot to benefit if this ever really happens.
I would love to see this happen though, and to see Elon become a trillionaire.
