Work alongside a designer.
Easiest would be at a startup where you are interacting with one another on a daily basis. As a designer at a startup, when I'm updating the interface or creating a new flow I'll often include my design thoughts. Side note: I do find myself repeating the same things over and over: spacing, hierarchy, etc.
