Most of my takeaway skills from college were not the specific content of my classes.
Rather they were:
- The ability to identify, understand and retain (for a determined period of time) the most important aspects of a huge number of different topics, whilst under deadlines.
- The ability to find a way to learn the necessary information, even when the teacher's methods weren't compatible with my means of learning.
- The realization that simply showing up and trying my best will often be enough to set myself apart from the crowd.
These skills have transferred exceptionally well to into my professional career.
I view college much as I view playing sports. They're head fakes, so that you learn one thing whilst you think you're learning something else.
