I asked what it means "no longer support", she said GD will withdrew their name from the SOPA list, stop lobbying and encourage other companies to stay against.
As before I was aside of this, now GD sounds like a lose flag on the wild wind. This will make me transfer my domains out of GD as they are too unpredictable. What if too many users whine that they owe my domains and GD "will transfer them because they dont want to lose business".
exactly. other than your mother in hospital needing new liver tonight the latest, I dont see a reason of dumping options of facebook, twitter, groupon zynga or other white-hot startup. thats something you just dont do!
agree. lookup any "deals" sites stats - cheapstingy, slickdeals, even groupon is getting less and less uniques... whether the economy is really recovering, or even worse its sucking people up so hard that they simply stop buying even cheap stuff they can't afford anymore!
what you mean by "knowing it"? I am sure your mobile operator does not have a separate human to sit down all day long and go through your data. Just because they store it, doesnt mean they access and digest through it all the time, something I would call "knowing".

if you run the business (any business) and want to rather think about making more money, then users privacy or just simple put "not being evil", then print yourself out this ruling: the highlighted sentence that something is not told to public because if they would know they would have stop utilizing said company services is amazing precedence and can get you out of pretty much any client's lawsuit when they claim you have mislead or did not tell them something!!

In my opinion the "peace" part in this means, by releasing the cables, he deeply embarrassed US (to which some US politicians even openly wishes him death). But think for a moment: a thief won't stop stealing until he got caught. Then, one of two may happen: either he come back on the streets and steal again, or learn his lesson through punishment and embarrassment (oh, if I steal again and get caught, it won't be nice) and stop stealing. I think that's where the "peace" part comes in. Next time the US government will try to double-cross different countries on different issues, ambassadors, politicians, soldiers and other involved will think twice or three times prior.
Further, US gov put him on wanted list claiming that he released so much confidential information that US will drown under terrorist attacks and the hell itself will break loose. Well, today I think it is safe to say that nothing like that happened; I havent heard about even one single breach when a crime party would use a wiki leaks info. Looks like, not surprisingly, US government overblown "security and confidentiality" part out of proportion. No wonder; after all, what are the other ways to rip citizens off their hard earned money, shove them into industrial, private military complex or other non-government third party entities while taking away the remaining of the US liberty.

makes a lot of sense. here are points for plausible:
- Mike is an asole. By that, I mean he built his fame out of being a bad boy of tech. Its not that he just play it low, like Lady Gaga or Diddy; he actually HAS an opinion of not trustworthy person; most Silicon Valley insiders avoid him, plus TechCrunch has never been good at keeping news to themselves before a company that they plan to write about asked them to stay silent for a day or two more in order to break the news louder. Further, he must have not been a good lawyer as well -- remember hot JooJoo broke down when Arrington cried over spilled milk when he realized he had not secured his business side in accordance to law or with etiquette of any businessman.
- he sold to AOL. I think the main reason was publicity of TC, not money. But I think he knew by selling and getting more ears/eyeballs to read his stuff, he can tube out about companies he invests in.
- given his personality, I personally think it makes sense for him to use TC tube to make as much money as possible. One thing is being on AOL payroll, other is to use that tube to overreact about companies (read: stocks) you in: facebook, twitter, quora -- all has had huge TC coverage while plenty of other companies similar to quora never seen a single line.
Who knows, maybe he may be the last one to do that; I am sure sooner or later FTC will tap in. I dont see a difference, monetarily-wise, between buying penny stock and batch-calling thousand of random phone number leaving voicemail with "secret message of stock thats going to soar soon", and actually owning a second-market stock and applauding it through a tech-blog tube.
question: wouldnt your ISP capture all traffic and "log it" on the run, so if you have your own mailserver, government can still ask ISP to get them your traffic packets? -- AFAIK mail runs in plain text over the net, right?
I disagree. There are not that many gaming network comparing to Sony. They will fully take advantage of their monopoly on the market. They will make a big announcement that they spent XX millions of dollars to secure and redo their security and network and will welcome users back with 30 days free ride. After all, your data is already stolen. Change credit cards. But that "anger" won't most likely stop you from coming back and playing again!
This will be a spot on Sony's brand... and money will be lost, but their network will survive.
I was surprised by that. What a waste in my opinion. I mean, c'mon! once you run a software to ERASE single bit to zero on HDD's internal discs, there is NO WAY to retrieve that information back. Then, the drive can be recycled -- mostly like for more $ than shredded pieces of nothing that come out of the shredding machine.
I think what he asking is how will your system know whether prediction happened or not.
let say I predict June 1st they will be snow. 70% says nay, 30% says yes. June 1st comes, the snow fallen down -- how will your system know that and update this prediction?
you not going to do it manually right? that is, if you plan to enlarge predictions database... you not going to have 10,000 employees checking each prediction.
the only way to execute it is after the thing happen, give users second vote on whether prediction was right or not... but something this can be subjective... so users which "lost" can vote like they havent "lost", lol.
as much as I like the idea, it tells me there is soo much daily system management (means spending $$$) versus I cannot see a stable, solid, long-term revenue stream.

I only think both left and right menu should be smaller and this would give more place for the main feature (predictions)
then you could enlarge prediction title style.
oh, and those thumbs make me think its like someone "like" or "dislike" the idea. it would be nice to say something like "impossible" vs "most likely to happen".

AFAIK Twitter terms of usage (API) does not allow you to STORE anything on your machine(s)... only to access it in real time.
This fact alone would stop me from spending time on building a tool that obviously violates Twitter TOS.

I respect the idea and execution and OK it is secure and everything, but if you can use your hands/brain to create work and get paid for that work in currency X, and then use that currency X to sustain yourself (pay bills, food, gas, etc), then the entire government become obsolete!! I am not arguing here whether a mature society needs government or not, I rather say here that there is a government in place (at least US) and this will be taken as a treason and a pure act of terrorism! (terrorism is any attempt to derail a government entity).
I am sure feds/FBI is in it by now! There was a lesson learnt for music industry when P2P blown out and basically the law lost and it is so easy even today to obtain copyrighted music/audio materials. I am SURE federal government will not let entire country economy to be at stake by some P2P currency.
there is ONLY one money-printing machine in USA, it is a privately owned entity called "Federal Reserve", dont get fooled by "Federal" in the name (Federal Express is private company).
everyone else coming up with more or less sophisticated machine to print money, or exchange money, or any form of transaction that Federal Government is unable to track/monitor/accept or deny WILL get hurt very badly. It is just a matter how popular your machine is and how much traction it is getting. But rest assured, once you turn it on, you have your own chart in the FBI system.
