We don't need an article to tell us this. Only extreme Apple fanboys own and defend the device. It's horrid to use, does nothing any more convenient or easier than a smartphone, and it's not a replacement for a wristwatch. Cutting-edge smart devices that will be replaced in a year will never be jewelry. There is no prestige in wearing a cheap electronic wristwatch. Only ironic hipsters or deluded people think otherwise.
Gnumeric is a large steaming pile of dog poo. Do a sort on a largeish file and it will consume all the known RAM in the universe. Do the same operation in Excel and it barely breaks a sweat.
I work in an open office, and everyone wears headphones for hours when they need to concentrate.
The thing is, these people are doing irreversible damage to their hearing. Listening to headphones at a volume that will drown out conversation is not a good thing.
Furthermore, I've never experienced as many migraines as I have before switching to an open office. I have to keep pills at my desk. Never had to do that before.
You may want to look up the age of those "virtuous" languages you listed. While it's fun to bash C, you could drive a damn yacht through the undefined behavior in Scheme. High-level languages are not immune here.
