I’ve noticed the same reaction. I’ve posted some comments that disagreed with others and I got downvoted – so it is really discouraging to disagree.
I think that the solution here could be that next to karma there is courage section for people who are not afraid to disagree. There should also be something like “Karma Court” where respected guys from YC community decide if the post that got downvoted was plain stupid/disrespectful or just disagreeing. The members of Karma Court should bee respected fans of YC - motivation to become karma judges could be even bigger respect and recognition from other community members. What do you think of that?
Dude.... Wil Schroter... right now, when economy is down pretty much everywhere around the world, is it really a good time to write a story about why startups are failing? You should write about reasons why people should start their own companies not vice versa! Don't you get it man? What's the point of helping people to do worse? Screw your boss if he/she is behind it... start your own Forbes magazine!
I was just saying that favicon is just very small part of an online company's identity and it’s definitely not a serious part.(If you still don't get my point then ask yourself: how many companies I know that make more money because of their favicon?)
I don't agree at all. If favicon is important part of an online company's identity there must be something seriously wrong. However bad or good the company does in the future won’t be based on the look on the favicon… so in my opinion it does not matter at all.
I don’t see why you guys think it’s amazing? They have just connected all objects in video to videos timeline – you can’t really change anything but just rewind and forward the video. Amazing for me would be if by moving one object in the video the end outcome would be different...
“Get answers from people you know!” Is the first thing that sticks out from your site ...What problem is this solving? Isn't this why we use e-mail for? Those were questions I asked myself when I first looked at your site... After reading on I got to the ACTUAL point of your site… what is: neatly organized community knowledge base. So in my opinion you need to emphasize this part more…or even change those two sentences. I am just afraid that lot of people won’t read on if their first impression is same that I had…
