With iOS Safari you can change the YouTube website setting to always request the desktop site. Then if you press the home button while a video is playing, pull up control center within 5 seconds and press play you have background playback.
There is also a ton of ad blockers for Safari which block YouTube ads.
Best example of the above is YouTube. Have to reload like 3 times to get the real desktop site on iOS just to have background video playback and access to all videos on most pages.
(This is with YouTube set to request desktop site always in settings).

There is a hack that you can do (soldering on an IDE cable) that allows you to connect a DVD drive and boot games and access files from DVDs. The Dreamcast modding community is still very active to this day. A lot is known about the internals which I find fascinating.

From my research, there were multiple efforts over the years to back port an OS released 5 years prior to the release of the target hardware. Finally someone did it, and after testing it out it really just works.
