Zapier is a very cool tool, although it tends to be more for point to point data push.. tray.io is actually aiming for the situations where you need to do something a bit more complex than point to point..
We are just sorting out equity/option scheme for our first employee, so this was a good read, and completely agree with the first statement about owning 100% of a company where staff are not invested!!
What do you think about the new regulations concerning app developers in California? It seems to be enforcing more of a penalty than the usual issue of badly implemented EULA/TOU?
we are working with our current alpha users to find the right sort of rules that help them with their email.
The idea would be that you could setup custom rules based on the people who email you, or other web services you use, for example if a hot lead in sales force emailed you while your in a meeting, then forward it via SMS.
Being able to pickout a "time sensistive" email would really depend on what you consider time sensitive, but im sure we could provide something that would help.. email dom at tray.io and we can talk more about how tray could help fix your issue..?
At the moment the private alpha is just Gmail, because gmail provides OAuth Authentication, a much more secure/elegant way than requesting a users IMAP credentials.
Work is being done on supporting other email providers, which will obviously require storing the users credentials in a secure way & there is also a white label/internally hosted version in the works for the enterprise that mmahemoff mentioned..
Security for email is definitely our biggest issue so far, but we want to make sure we have it nailed before we go public...
"The internet" is being used to justify everyone getting everything they want for free.. Please consider how you might be using up entrepreneurial goodwill to make your life easier in many different ways without ever giving back and wasting the entrepreneurs time for no return.
Lean principles are there to make sense of an idea before too much time is actually wasted developing it. I would say that getting a hundred people to spend 60 seconds reading a landing page and then signaling their intent with a quick click is much less wasteful than months of development on an idea that may not have any real market. Going onto the street with a clipboard and survey doesn't really cut it todays world...
I was quite happy to help, as i was with the buffer lean landing page before.. i would hope that if i wanted to do the same type of thing to validate an idea, that i could count on the tech community to help...
Not sure why it didn't continue, it was one of those things that just got put to one side and never really picked up again.
The relationships thing never made it to the second prototype.. The first prototype did have it in, in fact here is a crazy picture which shows what happens if you were to turn the detail up to full in that version:
Not sure if that level of detail was very useful, but the idea was to try and explore the various relationships in the data. The detail sliders changed what information is shown based on domain experts prioritizing the data in each facet. We also did a bit of work into auto generating this priority rating, but that never made it into the prototype.
Was digging through some old code libraries and found a prototype i built about 5 years ago for timeline visualisation (the demo uses classical music data) during my time at the university of southampton (UK).
Anyway, thought it may be interesting for some people.. it still works pretty well, although was never actually finished, and was quite advanced at the time as it is entirely rendered using the CANVAS tag..
The video is a bit small, and the music is really annoying, but fair play to you sir..

Yep, sorry for the downtime, we only have a single server at the moment, so no redundancy for doing updates, and it seems a few people were having the social connection issue, so it needed an emergency patch...

I had not really thought about using Gravatar, but it does seem like a nice way to provide profile pics for those who use it, we will look at getting it implemented in a future update.
Until webkit introduce a better debugging tool than it currently has, i dont think any web developer is going to stop using firefox and firebug as their main development browser.
