Not really. ARPANET has existed since '69, and UNIX came into existence in '70. IIRc they were sharing files across ARPANET in '75. People transcribed files :P
I second this. In addition, who on earth thinks that Black on vomit-coloured Yellow is easy to read? I actually had a harder time reading that than HN's website.

Hmm, that might be why slashdot ended up this way. I have only been on /. for a while, but I don't think it's stupid to assume that the arguments on there didn't use to be as rife as they are now, or as strong.
