Earlier this week I posted this link. It is a reactionary piece to Trump winning the election and it's impact on women in tech.
The post was flagged almost as soon as it was added :-). The only answer I have for this happening is blatant sexism. There is nothing that goes against Hacker News rules that I am aware of in the post.
I wanted to bring this to your attention Hacker News Community. As I don't think it reflects the majority of users here.
I find it interesting that you feel this advocates gender discrimination. I am opening a dialog that women in tech feel that other women are harsher on them then men. The article was started by a woman. Bias towards women in tech does not only come from men. It comes from women too. We need to discuss all the angles it comes from to remove the bias.
We are excited to have our first installment of Conversations up on #CodeLikeAGirl. It is a discussion of a previous post about male privilege that spurred a lot of discussions here on Hacker News. We posted this here to share how the conversation continued!
And if they can't does that mean they shouldn't be there? I think it means we need to change the current workforce to make it open to people of all kinds.
I was disappointed to see how this lady's interview process went. How will we increase diversity in tech if this is how interviews are run. Also, I have never heard of a group interview before. Very odd.
I did consider that and thought about whether or not I should post. I knew that posting would bring more attention to it, but I also felt that by not posting I was allowing things like this to continue and that is not ok. I felt there was value in standing up for someone who decided to write for our publication, and was approached in an unwanted way. At least this way there are thousands more people that are aware that situations like this happen. In the future, we will try to protect our young posters against this by anonymizing their content.
However, someone just flagging it so others can no longer comment on it isn't very productive. That is what bothers me about it.
I can totally see your point of view on this particular story.
