As I prefaced, I wrote this post to see how my sentiment changes as time moves on. I think it'll be interesting to look back on and see how I felt at this point in time.
So, this is just me. The point I was trying to convey is that it is generally a cool place to be and I enjoy it. Staying to 9 or 10 doesn't feel that long to me personally. It isn't like I'm forced to be there that late -- I would say I'm most definitely in the minority of people staying that late.
If I had kids, I'd most definitely want to be home and be with them. Lots of Yahoos leave at more "standard" times and there is obviously no issue.
I'm pretty sure that Facebook is swiping up a number of these mobile-based companies so that when they get around to launching the Facebook Phone they will integrate these companies as the core services built into the phone itself. Think about it: Having a phone with the following services out of the box highly integrated with the Facebook platform:
1) Glancee -- Pretty much Google Latitude. See where your friends are around you built into your phone
2) Instagram -- Take amazing pictures with filters out of the gate built into your phone
3) Karma -- Get reminders about your friends' lives and events and send them gifts built into your phone
These aren't random BS talent-acquisitions (no disrespect). Facebook has something up its sleeve with mobile and I wouldn't be surprised if this was it.
Sadly, there is no way to do this. We may roll this out in the future -- but you're the first person to bring it up. If we see a higher demand, we'll definitely consider it.
We're planning on implementing a scroll bar -- we just don't really enjoy the default browser ones and are going to have a custom-built one soon in JavaScript.
Right now we're targeted the size to fit the majority of most common blog platforms. We'll probably roll something out soon to pass in a param to get your own sizes. The problem is resizing the analytics gets tough.
We will probably have the ability to turn on/off certain reports pretty easily if its really requested.
We also plan to implement branding VERY soon. And we're going to give it away for free. Feel free to follow @GoPollGo on Twitter for relevant updates.
Right now we're doing an iFrame because we wanted to get something out the door. The way we've built them is so that we can constantly update and polish the widget as issues arise. There is a possibility of it moving over to pure javascript at one point -- but not for the foreseeable future.
I love the simplicity of HN polls, but if you use GoPollGo, you can see votes segmented by different countries/states/district. Soon we'll be adding the ability to split votes by age/gender/browser/os/referring website.
