Work that matters: advance our understanding of life’s building blocks
Exactly, him & his firm have been leading the bandwagon on crypto investments, social/mobile, ads, "scooters", and all the other sectors which are all hype & no build.
Yes I agree with you, I am concerned with the elderly & infants. As these are the demographics which usually have higher fatal outcome both in diseases, and even adverse effects from drugs/surgery.
So it seems prudent to reiterate that the only causes for social disruption & need to prep would be to have unjustified panic and run at stores like the behavior seen in Italy.
There is only a ~2% mortality rate from COVID-19, less than the usual flu. If one is prepping to survive from this, it is much more likely you have deeper emotional & psychological issues that prevent you from holding long lasting intimate relationships. And are at a higher risk of death from depression, anxiety, loneliness, and general social isolation. Thank you for listening. P.S. I work in this field and attached is an analysis of the ebola virus breakout from a few years ago, if you feel so inclined to work on something similar using your CS skills for COVID. See you in New Zealand with all the other bitcoin moguls :-)

Lucid Align | SF or Remote | C# Xamarin | Full-Time or Part-Time | https://lucidalign.com
Lucid is a scientific desktop tool for genomic sequencing data. It's part of a larger toolset used for sequence alignment, variant calling, and annotation. Pretty much inspired by Sublime Text, for sequence alignment maps (sam files).
Looking for someone to fix some bugs and refactor where necessary.
If you have fun working on this, the larger toolset is in C++ and uses Caffe2, so you can try your hand at that once this work is completed.
If you are nearby and want to meet up, or faraway and want to chat just hop into the discord channel.
"Conjectures and Refutations: The Growth of Scientific Knowledge" is my favorite work by Karl Popper. His 1945 work on the Paradox of Tolerance seems more appropriate here.
Traditional variant calling, that is bayesian methods, have gotten very good at detecting point mutations, that is single letters. But have hit a wall when it comes to more complex structural mutations, we wanted to build this for example to focus on driver/passenger mutations in tumor/normal samples. (check out the "Preface" post for our LSTM version, and the logic behind this)
Hey, I'm one of the guys working on this. These are just our notes and drafts, and even though we are at ~97%-99.3% the goal is to get to 99.9587% or higher because out of 3-4 billion letters that is still significant. Here's a cool non-technical magazine article about it https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/922315550054793216
I see you are just a random developer guy, so I would recommend you talk to your friend more. Then, improve your skillset in the sciences, so that you may outsmart him/her and put whatever resources they possess to better use.
Genomics it's good stuff.
We made some tools that are better than what academics/gov/big companies make.
Desktop applications, not web or "cloud"-- b/c you make video games and movies with desktop applications, so maybe when lives depend on it skip the web browser.
Anyways you'll get paid market-rate and get to work with fun technologies.
I was going to say not all Sierpinski pages, because I didn't expect to cover CGR with genomes. But it covers it! My version:
