Perhaps it IS the widespread case that a lot of us are getting paid as SRE for much less than you believe an SRE should know. Ultimately, where you've set the bar is arbitrary
You don't need to remember it for the events to be significant. I'm pretty sure kids have psychological/development needs as young as 4.
The kids will have $, but there's way more to being raised than your wealth resources. Is there a mass ignorance of this on HN? Yay for having more potential (affluent) sociopaths released on the world I guess?
The other side of the table is so clearly entrenched in their viewpoint that I just laugh now.
Someone asking me at the bar "but what's the value?" when they are an experienced technologist does not get my engagement. They haven't done enough homework to even propose a potential answer to the question they're nongenuinely asking
It has been interesting. The liberal technology community is so emboldened by "muh environment" FUD this cycle that they're actually more blind to the growing sector than ever before.
Ultimately, for the finance-minded developer, there is a gargantuan shortage of web3/crypto devs. I'm not talking about scammy VC web3. I'm referring to the people capable of building what's coming. Overnight, every company is gonna need devs and the shortage will be exaggerated.
5hr/week is probably overkill, unless one wants to coast in FAANGs.
I've gotten into companies with one of my only skills being interviewing by just doing a slew of problems for a couple weeks and then interviewing a lot. Inevitably, some company just asks easy/med and I"m good to go

I'm getting something cool done on some stuff I actually care about, like my gym gains. You can see other examples in this thread: family, their own coding project, etc.
I'm not OP, but I am similar to him in that I cheated/got carried through CS, have produced very little, and now have ~$900k in my 20s.
I'm short, male, not physically attractive, but not overweight. People enjoy having me around on the team; I'm a citizen of the country, so not worried about getting kicked out if I'm canned
I've also never stayed somewhere 2+ years
I almost exited the industry this year, but I'm going to give it another go and perhaps up my productivity.
Pretty much my only skill is leetcode easy/med + basic sys design and knowing some SRE principles. I almost wish the interview wasn't as gameable so I could move on with my life in a new field
I never followed this challenge aside from doing a few 10 years ago in college.
If speed to problem completion matters though, then question release time will be brutal for some.
