I'm willing to bet people at large aren't willing to pay as much as the programmer community thought they would.
Especially to join a community full of programmers.
However programmers might find a social network of only programmers worth much more than $36 per year.
Seems like that ought to be sitting on top of github.
Seems like it already is, to a degree.
Still not paying to use something I can use for free and with millions of more users/activity.
So is App.net now worth $36 instead of $50 per person?
$60 if you pay monthly. 66% interest per annum? over a no deposit 12 monthly payment plan.

How about dropping the developer yearly price too?
Still no trial version?
I still won't be paying for it. May as well have raised the price as far as I'm concerned.
Edit: Obviously being downvoted by people who have wasted $50.

<< [W]e are dropping the Member price from $50/year to $36/year. All existing members will get the benefits of the yearly price drop. Existing members will get additional months added to their plan so that they see the same pricing benefits that new yearly members get. If you are an existing member, you should have received an email from us explaining the extra time that has been added to your subscription. >>
Well played! Will have to use that technique myself in the future...
