Ask HN: How many of the HN "Who is Hiring" jobs are evergreen?
I keep seeing the same jobs for quite a few of the months. They tend to be somewhat generic. An example would be Jobs with "Philadelphia" in the title or body.Are these real jobs, or have the corporate scum begun polluting our job thread?

One could do guerrilla marketing using local job boards.
If you build SaaS software, you could anonymously create jobs on job boards for high paying job - and list use of your own SaaS tool as a requirement of being interviewed.
Would be a great, immoral way to get people using your tool.

This is how I picked up Kotlin lol. Saw a bunch of German companies that were using it in Android before Google officially adopted it. Tried it, found it awesome, started using it in all my apps.
Imagine if some random "jobs" out in Japan or something suddenly needed Azure certification. Then you get rejected for visa requirements or so.

It’s crazy there’s no better way than the bloated LinkedIn jobs and indeed. I guess word of mouth and contribution to open source is the play.
It makes sense that there is at least some puffery
I would expect the evergreen postings on the major boards, but it just feels out of place here.

I've seen a ton on here. Startups trying to appear growing when they're not. All part of the game plan.

I've seen a number of posts that appear month after month. I've applied to a couple and they've been legit, but it's also clear why they're there month after month (e.g. low pay, but a unique opportunity).
DuckDuckGo is posting DevOps positions for over a year, both here and linkedin.
There are plenty plausible explanations why companies are doing that.

- Get legitimately thousands of job applicants on LinkedIn to apply
- When they apply, auto select the "Follow <companyName> on LinkedIn?"?
- 90% of applicants don't notice, and auto follow
No joke. That is the playbook. Do we really think 97,000 people are following DuckDuckGo because they're interested in hearing their marketing and culture posts? (no offense to DuckDuckGo, they're not the only one to do this)

Honestly, I think it's even more insidious: They're betting on the applicant following the company thinking it'll increase the applicant's odds of being "noticed."
Ah, true. I have seen their's. They seem more legit. The two I have been seeing are for medium sized companies and the listing are very generic. I think one might be legit since a recruiter on a different platform reached out for a specific role at that company. But the posting on here seems pretty generic. The other one has posted for months or even a year. It's also a generic one. Of course my area is a dead zone for jobs on here.
It's all of the above. Every single realistic scenario you can imagine is likely happening simultaneously.
