Been a 1Password customer for 15 years. I used to like the app and service so much that at one point, I considered applying for a job at AgileBits.

Fast forward to today. Copying passwords to the clipboard has been broken on Linux for at least two years. It used to work fine.

Also, they broke their Linux desktop app so seriously that I'm stuck on a twelve-months-old version, otherwise the app window won't even come up. It used to work fine. The version I'm stuck on has known vulnerabilities.

Data entry is broken, too: typing something and then tabbing to another window randomly truncates data if I type quickly enough.

Support requests are basically being ignored. They claim they only support X11, not Wayland. It used to work fine though before they broke it.

The only thing that's keeping me subscribed to 1P is the fact that I'm locked in too deeply and I'm not aware of trustworthy alternatives.

Apart from that, I despise and loathe 1Password more than MS Office.

1Password can buy any startup it wants, a buggy mess is still a buggy mess.

Very sorry to hear this Hackbraten. Wayland support has been gradually improving so you should be able to use an up-to-date version of 1Password in Wayland without these kinds of issues, although as with all things Wayland it also depends on your distro/WM/GPU. (I recently tested in Fedora 40, and I use 1Password in native Wayland mode on openSUSE Tumbleweed.)

I believe our clipboard integration still has an XWayland dependency, but you don't need to actually load into X11 to use it, just have it installed. We are currently working on better native clipboard support for Wayland in the arboard project. (Contributors are always welcome! https://github.com/1Password/arboard.)

Also if you ever feel like applying for that job, I'd love to have more people who are passionate about Linux on the team. :)
