Hopefully there are closed source solutions on Linux. Open source is a fine thing, but only when it works.

What? This is about HDMI being a licensed connector owned by the HDMI forum. You need to pay them a fee if you want the HDMI OUT or IN inside your electronics

FFS, it seems like we need the EU again. Maybe a general law that all connectors must be accessible to third parties?

I don't see any TVs adopting Thunderbolt any time soon. For computer monitors, we already have DisplayPort which is fully supported by amdgpu. That would be a more likely candidate to have on TVs than Thunderbolt.
