You are looking at it, or at least what could have been if he didn't back down. Not backing down creates a forcing function to where they leave and people like them won't come.
That seems like a desired outcome
It remains pretty crazy that he made the defenses he did given Netflix have previously pulled episodes of Community for having a joke about how blackface is bad.
Doesn't exactly seem consistent other than "we spent a lot" on this mess.

They always roll over in the end. Better watch Dave Chappelle while you can.
He should have just said nothing and let it pass
Man, when can we get back to an executive class with a spine and common sense. Can't have free speech if only one self-appointed group dictates what can be said.

This is what worries me - it feels a lot like the Cultural Revolution in slow motion (although arguably that too took place in slow motion). Any ideas outside the one approved idea set are treated as heretical. And those who espouse such views are not worthy of visibility or acceptance or power. Isn’t this exactly what authoritarian societies demand? Why is it excusable or normalized when authoritarianism is decentralized or implemented via powerful private organizations.

What are you talking about? Chappell expressed an idea that was mainstream only a couple years ago. Nothing he is saying is new , or 'truth'. He is just an old man expressing old ideas

Cool!
I remember a time when people didn't have to be coddled from opinions they don't like. He should have just said nothing.
No you don't; that time never existed. It's just that previously the only people with voices were the powerful.
Look at what happened when George Pullman or Trump or John Adams had their opinions challenged. They throw childish tantrums until they get their way.

I do however think he, and Netflix, have screwed up by hiring activist employees.
I believe there's a way to screen out these employees that wouldn't involve discrimination or lawsuits.
