I live in the Midwest and am young, healthy and generally ambivalent about the coronavirus (though I am concerned for my aging parents). I'm simply washing my hands more. I have no plans to go stop going to work or rush to the grocery store to stockpile toilet paper. This seems to be in line with most of the media messaging I receive.
However, I've also seen reports that the virus can cause permanent testicular damage:
National Geographic reports that the virus can cause honeycomb-like holes in lungs similar to SARS:

The messages there seems to be in line with emerging social media reports that although fatality levels are low and correlated mostly with the elderly, surviving the virus doesn't mean coming out unscathed.
Additionally, I have seen some pretty grim videos from china floating around (bodybags lining streets, police chaining doors closed that are opening from the inside). Surely that level of intensity isn't warranted from "just the flu".
What's the move here? Maybe someone like me ought to be doing more to get ready.
