What in the world is this doing on HN? This is not what people come here for.
Government is a necessary overhead that must be constantly minimized to avoid eventual societal suicide.
I think governments only move in one direction though. (Has the American government ever shrunk year over year?)
Short answer: yes, ten of the previous twenty years, and fourteen of the last thirty (as a percentage of GDP).
