How can this type of nonsense reach the front page?

I got to the bottom expecting that what I just read was an introduction into an investigation.

This Medium post would probably work better as a single 140 character tweet, there is nothing of substance here. I'm surprised to see it made the front page.
It only took 9 upvotes to reach the front page, and once it did it was flagged off within minutes.
Um, isn't clearing cache, cookies, loaded pages, etc. the first thing one tries?
