Systems engineering is actually an overloaded term and that Wikipedia article is correct. The author’s definition is also correct of course. Just talking about different things.
It’s cool to see PHP getting its second heyday once again. It’s currently a perfect storm of two communities starting to notice PHP. From the JavaScript side, people are comparing React with PHP, and on the bootstrapped start up side, people are talking about just using a single index.php file for your entire product without dealing with a complex tech stack as inspired by Pieter Levels.
Wow, these are all great suggestions, thank you! Especially creating an environment where their reputation matters is an interesting point. My biggest concern is images more than text (though they can both cause a lot of damage). If it takes that much manpower I might not even allow any images in the first place like HN.
Yes, I always felt like building highly interactive user interfaces is like building a game. I guess it feels even more like that if it’s “multiplayer” like Figma.
If the browser ever becomes a popular platform for mainstream games then I suspect the quality of web applications will also boom just because of all the talent pouring into the browser as a platform.

I’m doing a deep dive in how various “backend languages” are being used to create interactive front ends (i.e. Phoenix LiveView) and I might even look into this as another example.
I’ve always had trouble balancing between working on things that I consider to be important vs things that I am excited about. In my experience I’ve always gotten good results from the things I’m excited about and not what I consider to be important.
Should I consider what I feel excited to be important? Personally, sure, but objectively speaking the world might not think that way.
Once any website with user generated content becomes big enough, content moderation becomes one of its biggest concern. It’s smart that Blue Sky is invite only for now while they work on the moderation part.
Composable moderation is an interesting concept as the baseline is set by the app, but users/community can create their own moderation rules on top of it.
