Probably worth drawing this thread's attention to the debate over whether ancient Hindu texts mention nuclear weapons and atomic war. Up to the beholder whether that makes those texts sci-fi or not, I guess.
You need to be twice as smart to debug code as you need to be to write it. So if you write the smartest code you can, then you by definition are too dumb to debug it
Holy shit you don't get anything for _free_ as a result of adopting Kubernetes dude. The cost is in fact quite high in many cases - you adopt Kubernetes and all of the associated idiosyncrasies, which can be a lot more than what you left behind.
To carry on, this is because they're both very interested in "knowledge in depth", rather than because of what they actually work on day-to-day. They've both made careers out of knowing what's going on with the thing they're building down to the most basic level possible.
Saying "Eastern Europe" as opposed to "Moscow" is a little coy, isn't it? They're in the same time zone and one seems likelier than the other, to put it one way.
Edit: speaking of, these guys might also have some time pressure at the moment with regards to hacking stuff lol. Kind of fits the bill with what we know about the hack
kind of miss n-gate coverage of FOSDEM to be honest, it was great for putting stuff in (sarcastic) perspective. More conferences should have a treatment like that.
I was working in a company that had been spun out of a university until recently and it was shocking how hopeless the researchers were. I've always been critical of how poor the job security in academia is but you'd think it's still too much given how slapdash some of the crap you see is. We basically had to reinvent their product from the ground up, awful.
I'm one of the lucky ones, as I grew out of my teenage years my brain changed and seizures stopped. You never stop looking over your should or thinking about it though, not at all.
One theory a doctor posed to me for why this could be happening (he'd seen it before), was simply down to neural pathways getting more set as you get older - the analogy he used was that a seizure is sort of like your brain short circuiting, so if it's less plastic that may make you less prone.
It's just ridiculous how adaptable the human brain is, I love reading about this stuff.
Congratulations, this is great. Have you thought about spending some time writing down what you had to learn and how you went about figuring out what to learn in order to do this? I think it'd be even more interesting than the language itself.
Yeah we have a 10Mb state file and it already takes 30-45 min to deploy. The main way it happens is if someone cancels a CI/CD job because they're realised something is wrong and don't want to wait that long to try again. That's not an issue if there isn't a state file, but yeah I can see how there would be a tradeoff possibly associated.
Do these guys need a state file like terraform does? It's great that you can use a normal programming language, but that's nowhere near as big a pain point as state files getting out of sync. Not even close.
