Somebody posted on HN before about an eruv index, that’s how I found my city had one as well[0]. I assume they got sort of popular around Jewish neighborhoods.
Feeding stray cats and feeding birds are very different things, pretty much at odds with each other. If a stray cat is fed, birds have a more difficult time surviving.
It's really amusing when you tour something like Casa Loma[0] in Toronto (a gothic revival house) and then compare it to the Darwin Martin house[1] in Buffalo, which was built basically 10 years before. I can't imagine visiting a FLW house in the early 1900s and then building a super kitschy castle.
FLW almost always gets very generous interpretations of his intentions. I've been to 5 of his houses (including this one) and I've not heard anything negative about him on the tours. I say this as someone who likes his houses a lot (and considers themselves as someone who's gotten over the "FLW is overrated" hump).
404media is heavily invested in the anti-datacenter reporting. I'm still subscribed to their RSS feed and like half the posts are datacenter focused (often with a misleading angle).
There are templates for deploying NixOS but almost all that I've encountered are heavily opinionated and thus only kinda work for specific people (usually the ones that designed them). Then when you want to customize them it's almost always easier to start from scratch.
I settled on that after trying to be extra careful with TOTP. Now my split is 95% of passwords, TOTP codes and passkeys in 1Password, 5% (really important stuff like email) in an offline KeePass DB + passkeys on Yubikeys.
I'm probably a heavier user of reddit than most but I recently deleted the reddit app on my phone because it's just too much. I still use the site though, but now I use an iPad with old.reddit to make using it as difficult as possible.
In a pursuit of saving even more money, I noticed a lot of T14 ThinkPads have missing/broken keys. Replacement keyboard is $20 and a few minutes of work. Worth about a $50-$100 discount.
