> “Independence is a strong part of the character of the people of the island. We’re not part of the UK, or the British Isles – we’re Manx,” said Phil Gawne, a former politician on the island...
> The British Isles are a group of islands in the North Atlantic off the north-western coast of continental Europe that consist of the islands of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Hebrides and over six thousand smaller isles.
Wikipedia disagrees.
Over the years, I've harbored a growing suspicion that the political Venn diagram surrounding the UK and associated entities has reached the point of such complexity that even the natives can't follow it.
(Not that I think that Americans know the US's territorial classification system either, but...)
This write-up led me to Evan Martins blog. What a gold mine. Digestible writing with a peek inside of Google's internals. http://neugierig.org/software/blog/
It actually causes real issues, such as build systems that only support python2 but not python3.
The sooner python2 dies, the better. I need to use both python2 and python3 since otherwise quite several software projects refuse to compile from source. An example is Mozilla's mozjs.
The drawings of it always made me think of a spotted hyena which a nobleman may have gotten from Africa. Not sure how credible those drawings are though.
I hate it when news outlets assume readers don't know what they are talking about and use analogies like "UEFI BIOS Alternative" without mentioning the actual thing on the title ("Coreboot").
About half of this machine's radioactive material leaked into the immediate vicinity after the radioactive source was removed from a larger machine as part of routine decommissioning.
Let's face it, most humans do not want to think about financial reality, look at Greece, look at a substantial number of the debtors owing that 1.5 Trillion in loans for 'education'. It's one thing to get a meaningful degree, and something entirely different to get a MFA at a school that didn't even review an application portfolio. We try to have some standards for mortgage borrowing, wouldn't it make sense to do the same for education borrowing?
Ultimately, this is a problem of semantics. Physics describes one objective reality that interacts with billions of subjective realities. Economics describes how billions of subjective realities interact to form one objective reality.
The article has a few places where the physicist attempts to ascribe an intrinsic value to an item (say dessert types) independent of the supply and demand curves for that item. The whole concept of a demand curve is that everyone has their own value that they give to an item. The fact that some people do NOT value some particular lifestyle improvements does not affect econ in the slightest.
That's ok Google. You may not force me to look at your stupid advertising. Plenty of decent browsers out there that take my privacy seriously. You just shot your selves in foot
As a Liverpool supporter of almost 11 years (beginning from one of the clubs lowest points), I find this is absolutely fascinating. Curious to know how the research team was involved in the signing of Andy Robertson – perhaps the best value signing in recent memory.
