Depends on why they're spending it that way, not whether they're spending it that way.
The problem is the "male re-education" and "recruiting women."
They should just have a recruiting budget and a re-education budget. There should be a way to determine the best spend of the money. Maybe one method of generating a nurse is cheaper, or produces a better quality employee. When you try to have the process generate "at least this percentage of [male/brown/etc] people" instead of just generate the most/best candidates, then you have DEI. The process doesn't produce the most, or best quality employees --it works to force an outcome that is unrelated to employee skill or best business practices.
When you're short on nurses, trying to invite men isn't DEI.
If we had plenty of qualified nurses, but hospitals made quotas saying that 20% of nurses must be men, that would be DEI.
It's replacing merit (let me sort for "best available nurse" and hire that person) with another attribute (let me sort for "male nurse," then sort for "best available nurse in the male group", and hire that person). If you hire the best available male nurse, you may have passed on the best available nurse. Given the demographics of nursing, seems likely.
Anyway, they're not talking about having a surplus of candidates, so that doesn't apply.
Why would you think the same genes control intelligence and skin color?
The genes that control skin color don't control fast twitch muscle, but we know sub Saharan Africans have more fast twitch than the rest of the world. What magic skin color gene affects fast twitch muscle? None.
It turns out, a population can select for more than one gene at a time. Crazy.
What we don't know is what genes individuals carry. That's why racism is stupid. Elon would agree.
Even if we agree with the premise that cutting funds to save people is the same as killing people (I do not believe this), those don't include how many deaths were reduced by cutting USAID. The funds wound up fueling awful things around the globe.
Once you factor in everything, the cuts are a huge net gain in my estimation.
In my very small business, the supply of software has gone up (I'm building things), and they're custom to my business--so highly useful. Moreso than any off the shelf product could hope to be.
Tmux is basically perfect software. It gets right out of your way.
It'll never come out of my development stack, or workflows.
Writing code isn't everything. Almost every time I start an apt command or something that might run a little while, I regret it if I'm not in a tmux session.
