One radio program that's withstood the test of time is "Echos" with host John Diliberto. I ran across the program the other day and it blew my mind that it still sounds identical to when i first heard it 30 years ago. The guy is a legend and clearly devoted to his listeners and the musicians he promotes.
At this point in his career, Jony Ive is best suited for doing deep dive studies on the corner-radius of new products. And even then, you might as well just default it to that of an ipad, because that seems to be his preference for all things, including $650k Ferraris.
I liked the idea of the Pebble index, but don't really want another device to manage. So I ended up configuring my apple watch to record a memo using the double-pinch gesture. It uses whisper ai, and translation has been great. After voice memo is translated, I parse the text using some apple shortcuts and inject things like tasks into my daily memos.
So far it's been working great, and it's allowed me to offload important ideas that are on the tip of my brain.
The first gen unibody macbooks had seriously sharp edges, enough to grate a block of parmesan cheese. I suspect Sir Johny Ive is behind this madness. The latest apple watch ultras also seem quiet aggressive, so much so that I am having to sport the lame looking normal apple watch.
I don't think swimming pool is the best size. Why not a hole that's a few meters in diameter but SUPER deep? So long as your water table is sufficiently deep. This way you can service it, should you need to remove/replace contents. If it's under your house - good luck with that.
For touchscreens, I think there is an opportunity to make larger touch targets. For example, when you want to adjust HVAC controls, the UI should take over the ENTIRE screen with ridiculously huge targets. Something in the range of 1-4 square inches in size for a core button should allow your for reduced cognitive overhead. This is critical for safe driving.
Millions of years from now EVERYTHING will be some form of cyborg. So these cockroaches might be THE missing link of when computer and living species first started to merge.
Also a significant increase in AFIB risk for runners. I am doing around 10-20MPW over the last 5 years. Not sure if this is enough training load, but I've had a habit of pushing too hard on my runs as well.
So warning about super-high intensity workouts. For a good while I would sprint hard as possible up 8 flights of stairs everyday instead of taking the elevator. I would do this multiple times per day (3,4 sometimes 5) with no warm-up/cool-down . Each time I would try to push for a PR, figuring might as well go for it! One day, after about a year of doing this, I noticed my heart rate at the top felt a little off. I tested with my watch and it said I was in AFIB. I was able to get back to normal sinus rhythm via getting zapped at the ER, but ever since then if I push too hard (usually on longer runs, going all out) I end up back in AFIB. Though it will reset the next morning.
This could be pure coincidence, but I would recommend doing proper warm-up and cool-down before going all out with HIIT. FYI I'm in my 40's.
People are not worried about the mass increase in the entire atmosphere, but very selective layers of the atmosphere (mesosphere and stratosphere). These are delicate layers that are highly affected by nano particles created from satellite burn-up.
We have a bright future full of endless "space-junk". As the price to orbit drops, people will inevitably send up more and more satellites that have questionable value. In 100 years will the sky at night just be a massive grid of dots moving across the sky?
Who will create the first advertisement in space using satellites as pixels to create their company logo? Maybe they can add some color and animations for kicks.
Edit: Another note on space junk is the effect on our atmosphere with all the "burning-up" of various materials. Apparently they don't just completely vaporize, but instead leave behind micro particles that float around for a long time. People are studying this and hopefully raising appropriate alarms (Making the case for wood satellites).
Only about 20% of the Herculaneum site has been excavated, so there is high probability that more scrolls exist. The current scrolls were not part of the main library, but more of a private collection at the time.
So imagine how cool it would be to find a full library with thousand of scrolls across many different topics, that can now be read with this technology.
The traditional sit down in a lecture hall, listen to professor speak, then come in for a pen and paper test, is outdated for this era of technology. What's the point of physically bringing +300 students into a room for a passive listening experience?
The future of education is rapid back and forth between the student and the teacher. You could image a future where a student sits down all day with an AI system that trains the student, and it won't let them pass until it's confident you know the material. This will happen at different rates for different people, but this is expected.
An ideal education would be getting those skills discs uploaded to you in the Matrix, but unfortunately it will take a bit longer to master them as we don't have full brain-system interfaces (yet).
My problem with this knot, is going from step 2 to 3, I get a bit of slippage from the orginal starter knot (step 1). For my running shoes, getting the tightness just right is critical, so not sure how to dial this in?
