I counted all 27 stories on Futurism's frontpage and every single one was "AI bad" "Elon bad" except for 1. a story about Trump's diarrhea 2. a story about lettuce at Whole Foods
I do think the author is right that the Codeberg post was wrong to assert that "community" is a measure of the legitimacy of a FOSS project
A massive amount of technology runs on essentially single-contributor projects with pretty much no "community": xz, core-js, GnuPG, NTPd, OpenSSL, cURL
They didn't need to make that implication or alienate solo devs in order to drive home their point
> To us, it seems ridiculous to see projects with a single developer and virtually no users consuming as much or even more resources than some of the largest community projects on Codeberg, which operate frugal with CI/CD and storage resources. We do not believe it is reasonable for Codeberg to invest our precious donation money into hosting of large ghost projects.
This seems fully orthogonal to whether LLMs are used or not
There's going to be a golden age of GPGPU compute in the next few years once A100/H100 are fully obsolete for running frontier models efficiently and the price plummets
It will be perfect for stuff like GPU-accelerated query engines, "classical ML" and every other CPU-based workload that could conceivably be offloaded to GPU
So many of the breakthroughs and architecture that make LLMs powerful in general today came from China, especially ones related to sparsity and MoE that have made inference and training substantially cheaper.
Let's not forget how much people talked about "prompt engineering" before Deepseek mainstreamed the idea of thinking mode which is now universal
If he found fucked up stuff regarding crimes way worse than his on university networks don't you think he could have gotten out of the sentencing entirely by cooperating against them
Epstein was relatively restrained even in his personal email, I doubt he was using MIT administrated systems to facilitate a pedo ring
> America actually produces less CSAM in general because Americans are lot more off put by Sex than most other cultures
The US has the largest pornography industry in the world by a massive margin, and the largest consumption of online pornography per capita
Meanwhile should we be surprised that CSAM production is higher in countries like the Philippines that have very weak digital policing, abject poverty, high numbers of street children etc?
The bigger point is that the codebase is hopelessly bloated by vibe coded features at this point, mirroring the same problems with Claude Code. And stability, performance, memory use have all gotten terrible.
I liked Opencode a lot previously but there's no doubt it's not well-written software. Pi has fully replaced it for me and there are quite a few newer options that learned from Opencode and exercise more minimalism where it matters
