It's buying an abandoned storage locker with potentially leaking chemical waste that has could have been poisoning the ground water and killing people the next town over for decades.
I was talking to a psychologist/counselor that works with one of the counties in the Bay Area. He said that top 10 most frequent people he sees costs the county well over $1 million per year, and the top person costs over $10 million. He said that about 30% of the people he works with need counseling but he also confirmed that there simply is a large percentage of people that he works with that need to be forced into treatment and he agreed with Michael Shellenberger's approach in the book "San Fransicko". He said even within the Bay Area, people bounce around between counties, and there is no system to keep track of them, and that also leads to a lot of wasted money.
This is a perfect case of how sometimes people need to be forced into treatment for their own good, and for the good of others.
The issue of government overreach is absurd in these extreme situations. This woman is brazenly ignoring public health, probably because of a mental health issue. There needs to be a way to declare some people as being unfit to care for themselves. I, for one, think that if you are so addicted to drugs and/or alcohol or are so mentally ill, that you drop unconscious on the sidewalk, you should be put into forced mental health care for at least 60 days or longer.
What happened to the findings of the gelatinous blood vessels and blood cells that they found within a tyranosaurus rex bone? It was something that scientists said would have been impossible, but they found it about 10 years ago.
Unfortunately, I haven't heard ANYTHING about this. Did they bury this or something or has anything been released about this since then?
I've noticed this in the last 4-5 years or so. It's really bad, but I just put up with it. I just recently bought a Pixel 7 to see how that compares and just might switch over.
As far as I'm concerned the countries impacted by those fishing cities should quietly torpedo them. It's a crime against humanity and if China can't support their own population with food they create themselves, they should cull their own population, not selfishly create famine for other countries by overfishing everything they can get their hands on.
I actually like Impossible Burger. It doesn't take like a burger exactly, but it tastes good. And if you screw up an Impossible burger, it doesn't taste nearly as bad as a screwed up beef burger, which gets as dry as leather.
I mean is there any mystery here? It's China. China doesn't care about anything except for themselves.
Hundreds of Chinese fishing boats set up just outside of international waters in South America and fished everything in the area and brought it back to China. It's like a sick game of Age of Empires but millions of people are affected.
I've had 3 shots of Moderna and got my first infection of COVID 3 weeks later. I've had COVID 2 more times after that, the most recent being about a month ago.
The first two times were sore throat with congestion. The last time was sore throat with congestion and sore joints for a day with fever. All symptoms except for congestion lasted for a day, and congestion lasted for a week. Annoying but nothing more than a bad cold for me.
I have a feeling most highway trash is coming from the garbage trucks themselves, or open trucks. I've NEVER seen anyone litter from a car, ever, in decades in California. However, I have seen a lot of garbage fly away from garbage trucks on the freeway, or those dumpster trucks or from pickup trucks filled with garbage. They have no containment whatsoever.
No. As rates rise, when you sell your lower yielding stocks you are selling low and buying high, iteratively. Rising rate environments like we are in right now are a disaster for any bond etf that doesn't have short duration. You need to wait until interest rates have peaked or at least eased off.
NEVER hold levered ETFs for more than a day or so. They decay horribly and in markets where there's a lot of volatility, they decay very quickly. You will lose a lot of money buying and holding any type of levered ETF.
NEVER EVER buy bond funds or bond ETFs. In an increasing interest rate environment like this, you will suffer terrible losses when the fund buys and sells positions. If you want, buy bonds outright, like US treasuries or commercial paper of reliable companies. Also stick with short-dated paper until we get to a peak in interest rates. The Fed has already said they will keep raising rates so we know rates will keep climbing for a while.
I've been short since November, and my portfolio is up about 100% YTD. I think the market is going to drop even further, 2008-2009 style, so I'm gearing up for that.
Afghanistan is different from Iran. Even today, Iranians are highly educated and they have historically been highly educated. Most of Afghanistan that the US was trying to mobilized was uneducated and living in tiny villages with no real stake as to who won or lost. With Iran's highly educated population and militarized, they have a much better chance of standing up to the fascist government and enacting change.
The jab about the media is absolutely warranted. How many women are found dismembered in the US almost every day? There was just a case last week in NYC. The media doesn't pick it up, but with Khashhoggi they did, because they care the most about journalists.
I'm not saying that it wasn't horrific what happened to him, but the question was why was there so much focus on his case, and the reason is because the media loves to report on themselves over anything else.
A woman in Iran would not be allowed to own a gun only because of the fascist regime in place today. Back pre-Ayatollah, Iran wasn't as misogynistic as it is today. It was one of the most forward Muslim nations in the world. I imagine that if Iran were liberated, they would be similar to Israel in the sense that men and women would all be mobilized into an army and trained such that something like the Ayatollah could never happen again.
