Seriously, I have to really think about when was the last time there wasn't some degree of unnecessary friction in an application. It really feels like being an end user of modern tech is like being in an abusive relationship.
Scott McCloud of Zot fame was an early adopter of the web, I attended a talk from him where he was talking about how frustrated he was that the 3 panel format had persisted to the web, when there were so many ways to use space creatively.
He later adapted that talk for his "understanding comics" Ted talk. Worth a watch if you love the medium
For all that the Linux community tried, and god did we try, we didn't make real gaming on Linux progress until Valve started throwing developers are the projects. You can easily attribute real gaming (I love free civ as much as the next person, but it's not the same) coming to Linux Desktops.
Poor instruction comes in many forms. To give you an example, my brother was hated by a 3rd grade teacher. She would be just a bit harsher with him. Objectively she wasn't teaching him that 1+1 = 5 or something like that, but she was definitely destroying his motivation for school.
