I'm not a git expert, but how was the attacker able to push the stability branch directly to the Amazon owned repo? The PR would have been to merge the modified branch to main right?
Is anyone familiar with the matter able to comment on the use of Torq-set fasteners? Are they a standard for these sort of use cases? They seem to be used frequently in Aerospace? I tend to use Torx whenever possible, are these better? Or should they have used something else to avoid such issues?

My sister-in-law swam the channel a few weeks ago, under the supervision of a pilot from the linked association. A direct point to point swim is around 33km. Due to the tides and the timing of her swim it was a 58km crossing. Incredible!
I feel folks overcomplicate this. At least for the the HN crowd, it is totally possible to eat mostly non-processed, fresh food, don't drink too much booze, and get an average of 30 minutes of incidental exercise a day. Those three things and you are head of 90% of people.
I'm using an Acer laptop that must be 15 years old for pfsense, never misses a beat, built in UPS! I've got a second laptop, a MacBook air from 2012 running a bunch of containers for Plex, hassio, etc. Works fine. I've got it all in a 19" rack I built out of wood. World's cheapest homelab. Haven't changed it in years.
Not just startups[1]. AWS, among others I'm sure, have at least attempted to turn this man's intuition into a little yellow box and an algorithm. Scaling to many thousands of machines at once, instead of just the ones he happens to touch.

Cool idea! I see the pain point you are addressing here is friction in the marketplace, rather than simply cost optimisation? Traditionally the use of standard RIs was a pain, due to the inflexibility of moving between instance families. And the fact that the marketplace requires a US bank account which made it a no-go for non-US customers.
However, these problems were addressed first through the use of convertible RIs. Which allow exchange of instance types, but can't be sold on the marketplace (from memory). But, to be honest, they were still a pain to manage. You needed a good cost person, or a good TAM to keep on top of the required conversions. So, secondly, savings plans were introduced. I generally recommend compute savings plans these days, as they are much more set and forget, though I acknowledge provide less discount than standard RIs. My personal opinion is that EC2 based RIs will probably be deprecated by AWS at some point in the future. For this reason I don't think its likely they'll release this automated marketplace as a feature in future.
I work almost exclusively with enterprise customers and see very little use of standard RIs these days, which given the marketplace angle I'm assuming is the only purchase option you are working with? Are you doing zonal or regional scope? But if you can find an angle that means customers can make more efficient use of standard RIs all the power to you, that is a win!
Recommendation wise, the native tools (Cost Explorer and the CUR) can deliver reasonable recommendations that are good enough for most customers. Especially when using more flexible purchase options like compute savings plans the need to be super accurate just isn't there anymore.
I'm not familiar with Hetzner at all. But it seems they are running a single self managed VM to serve these updates globally, and then comparing that to the cost of egress on a globally distributed content delivery network? What am I missing here? This is not the same thing. Nevermind the fact that AWS is an ecosystem with hundreds of products working in tandem to deliver solutions not just EC2.
Yes, one of the core benefits of a provider like AWS is that they provide tooling to treat individual instances as immutable entities that you simply replace without any interruption to your users. You should focus on expressing the infrastructure as code and using mechanisms like ASGs to roll out new instances based on the latest Amazon provided AMIs.
I'd be curious to see the typical rate of hearing degradation due to age graphed against typical income growth with age that would be required to support systems of this standard. Audiophiles are synonymous with diminishing returns, but I wonder if that is even more acute with age of the listener. Super cool nonetheless.
As a non-American I'm always surprised at how quickly people are fired there. I cannot imagine such a severe action been taking in any country I've worked in, thanks to robust workers rights.
Disadvantage of this is that the DAC in the echo dot is quite low quality. On a quality HiFi it doesn't sound very good. I started with this, and then moved to an Echo Link, which allowed me to output digital and then use the DAC in my amplifier, I may upgrade to an external DAC at some point, though I suspect I may have diminishing returns here, given the source is Spotify.

I don't understand how this would work. How do people rent? Obviously many people can't or do not wish to own their house for any number of reasons. Who will own houses that are rented? I used to live in Amsterdam as an expat, and rented from a landlord who owned several homes in Amsterdam. Would she not be able to own and rent these homes under this scheme?
The social housing system seemed to be abused when I was there. I had a number of Dutch friends still living in social housing places they'd rented as students on very low incomes, and were still renting 10 years later. For the same 300 euro per month, when they were now earning 6-7000 euro/month. I could never understand why this wasn't means tested continually.
I'm a hobbyist tig welder. 1-2% thoriated electrodes emit alpha particles that won't penetrate skin. It's really only a risk if you breath in a lot of the dust created by grinding the tip of the electrode to a point. That said, ceriated, lanthanated and pure tungsten electrodes are widely available.
