Just the PID 1 manager is multiple times larger in LoC than any alternative. There is no metric in which systemd is more lightweight that I could find.
Until it breaks, reports error, leaks, makes weird sound, needs a maintenance or even if you want to move it. You need to know how heavy it is, where are mounting points, where is the center of gravity, what needs to be affixed etc. What is the power it draws for the pump, what is the peak power and how long is the peak, what is the power factor? Does it have a safety certification, what kind of training operator needs, are safety elements up to date to modern standard? What kind of fire extinguisher do you need? What is the toxicity of all the materials under normal and extreme conditions? What kind of peak force is applied to floor and how is it distributed?
Maybe, but the scale of systemd features is humongous. It better be well documented. You don't need a user manual for hammer, you do need one for hydraulic press.
We shot thousands of tiny cubes into a heights people thought heaven would reside. Then we communicate with them at the speeds of "The whole data storage of 2000's computer" per second. They survive radiation, accelerations and flying through electromagnetic field at thousands of km/h. We can predict their movement, steer them and provide consumer priced service for tens of thousands of people. It's astronomy, mechanical, material, electrical and computer engineering at it's peak.
This is a civilization level defining achievement.
I love how claude focuses on exfiltrating the data "I need cha for charlotte". This could be solvable with some kind of low powered safety agent that would check claude's reasoning for anything immoral/unsafe. We could call it common sense. It won't fix the problem completely but at a certain point it would be easier to trick human than a machine.
I'm sometimes baffled how people's knee jerk reaction is to think how to ban this. And yet those same people complain about their parents that claimed that Rock'n'Roll or DnD should be banned because it's satanic.
This is literally the coolest thing we as a species achieved that doesn't serve self-preservation purposes.
AI is just a tool. It will be a tool as we constantly push the requirements of what qualifies as consciousness. Therefore I'm not worried about it. Almost all the predictions about future growth of technology were incorrect. We don't have flying cars, hoverboards, fusion, the matrix and so on. The goal of each of us is to live a better life. It always be and forcing people to give up luxuries for some external agenda based on slippery slopes is cruel and selfish.
We should have been under water, hunted by AI, overpopulated, killed by terrorist, smitten by god for our sins and so on. Luckily all it took was our privacy and a lot of tax money to survive.
You could just flag whatever you don't like as child porn. It would get taken down instantly and you'll get effectively silenced by presumption of guilt.
Yes you might appeal, but at that time your content might not be relevant and you will no be compensated for damages.
I admit UK wasn't the best example as now it's freedom of speech is maybe worse than in Russia or China. But I feel like public does not trat it as the biggest issue of the UK at the moment.
>There is much more to it, like a free conversation in society, strong independent education, journalism, justice, protection of minorities, etc.
All in theory. Otherwise we wouldn't debate this. Historically none of these traits are unique to democracy, but developed society. US had a civil war over protection of minorities even though it was considered a democracy.
>In a democracy you have an independent judical system that you can use against government overreach.
Which can only follow laws passed by the government. Separation of powers is not unique to democracy. Again the coercion mechanisms doesn’t matter, but the severity of it.
You can benefit much more as a corrupt politician, as the blame is diluted between the whole government. Single king is responsible for it's actions and we even have a word for throwing them out of the window if they misbehave.
It's much rarer for politicians to even get into jail.
The best level of democracy is no democracy. The problem of voting for road repairs is a problem we created by democracy. We voted ourselves into a system we can't escape, just because people back in the days couldn't fully comprehend side effects of their collective decisions.
Very few people realize that there is option to not use government cohersion as a solution to everything.
I know this is unpopular opinion. The system is designed for this to be unpopular opinion.
But the problem is not the democracy, but the level of power we give to the government. If the only power of government would be to pick flag colors and national anthem, no one would care about it.
No one cares about UK having a king, because it doesn't change a thing.
