I’ll keep using them though, and never suffer from someone writing typescript with 4 spaces, leading commas, and no semicolons again.
IMO it doesn’t replace software engineers, but it certainly changes the job. The problem lies with VPs and executives that rose to their positions through managing phones and printers and shit who don’t appreciate all of the work that isn’t “write code”, and those people are the majority outside of big tech in my experience.
Currently in a re-org justified by AI, AI changing the roles people will need to play. It’s disturbing how much content in the materials about the new org structure and roles and whatnot is clearly ai generated and contradictory. We’re laying off about half of 500 people.
The very comment thread we’re in has a quote stating you get more interior space because of the incorporation of wings into the body.
They appear to make more sense for large passenger jets because the interior volume scales better. There’s a ton of practical concerns though.
They won’t fit into existing airport setups. Seats near the wing will move waaay more than near the center during banking turns (maybe they’ll be cheaper lol)
I don’t think it’s a given they’ll replace what we’ve got, but who knows.

We’re just pulling signs of LLM touched writing out of our ass now. Might be time to move on from the accusations, assume all writing is at least LLM assisted and judge it purely on the quality.
Work for a big enough enterprise and you’ll spend tons of time making reams of documentation that nobody ever reads and only exists to check a box. Stick around long enough and maybe a 3rd party auditor will read some of it.
