For most of the services I've looked this closely at, maximum would be a proxy for load. Or in the case of a benchmark suite you'd expect max to increase with the number of iterations. What do you find the maximum useful for?

Interesting observation. I recently learned from a Fresh Air interview with Heather McGhee about Hinton Rowan Helper, a white racist Southerner abolitionist. He wrote a book analyzing the way chattel slavery harmed working-class whites and white society, the essential dynamic being:
the wealth of the plantation class did not depend on the labor of the white working class, nor their ability to buy product from the plantation class (cotton and tobacco were shipped north and globally); as a result the plantation (ruling) class had no incentive to invest in society; Helper quantified this by looking at number of libraries, schools, etc. in the North vs the deep South.
Obviously I don't want to claim the horrors of slavery are comparable to the effects of tech companies on the economy... but I wonder if the same _essential dynamic_ is there:
- wealth equating to political power
- an industry driven to remove any reliance on an educated populous or satisfied workforce (through automation, and the secondary effects of automation as in the way Uber etc. offloads risk onto drivers/society)
- an industry for whom the populous are not customers but "the product"
The article describes men who feel so incapable of expressing themselves in a way that can't be reasonably construed as sexist that they don't say anything. I think this is irrational, demeaning to women, and frankly pathetic.
Or maybe these fragile adult millionaire men could just... try harder? have more tact? Maybe we should have higher expectations of these men to have a little more awareness?
All that's assuming this phenomenon is even real, and not just an excuse for the author to grind her PeE cEe cUlTuRe axe; the whole thing is conveniently framed with "oh, but of course none of these people I'm not naming could ever admit that what I'm saying is true..."
I've got a degree in classical performance (and deeply love and respect that tradition), but more often collaborate musically with people who don't come from that background. Most will say with a little embarrassment that they wish they knew more "music theory". It's difficult to communicate to, say, and indie songwriter how I think theory might help them (to communicate, or analyze their own or others' music), and ways it's probably totally irrelevant (depending on genre, functional harmony is really not very useful).
And that's still just western music traditions. Study Indonesian music and you can see how many ideas about music are encoded even into the notation of western art music.
I've always been curious about basketball. It seems to have the same dynamic as big group races, where people are just trying to keep pace with each other until a final sprint. Yet basketball isn't very physically taxing, compared to those types of racing sports (or soccer, etc); it seems like teams could go all out the whole game, and then you wouldn't see as many games won by single digit point margins
I had a summer job in college with a real estate partnership that consisted entirely of filing unopened bills and liens into four different bins based on the project, each a different company that presumably was about to go bankrupt.
The only time I saw the two owners was when I started and when the take me out to lunch when they abruptly (but not unexpectedly) let me go.

I'm not sure what my point is here exactly, but: debian has had an "app store" for 20+ years that works brilliantly, can be trusted not to fuck with or spy on you, has never pulled youtube-dl/nmap/etc (as far as I know), (while also being naturally free of forum software for white supremacists (bonus!))

Vague predictions of inevitable violence (never "when we start a civil war", always "when the civil war happens" or "when the shit hits the fan") does seem like a hallmark of the far right, or white grievance.
Just pointing out there's no objective evidence I could find in this thread, the linked article, or on a quick Google scholar search that a bottle of wine degrades or even changes significantly after N days open.
