I love this feature in Gnome and use it all the time, I actually miss this feature when I use macOS, would love to be able to hold command and drag a window without needing to select title bar. It sounds like System 76 are really working on a super productive desktop, I look forward to trying it some day.
Looks interesting, but there doesn’t seem to be any licence on this project, and it is not clear if the source is available via the repo linked from website. Anyone know if this is FOSS?
The amount of entitlement ringing through the comments on the issue is crazy. It really makes me frustrated to see as it just adds fire to putting companies off the idea of developing open source software.
No mention of Linux I see, guess market too small to care. Seems to align with the recent decision to weaken the supported filesystem sync options on Linux as well. No real loss, as there are excellent open source alternatives luckily.
I am pro net neutrality, and would like to see a completely decentralised internet. It is not nitpicking to question the integrity and veracity of the messenger.
To be clear I am not saying they’re wrong. It’s like being told to recycle everything in a magazine that is full of adverts funded by the toxic waste industry. Yes, I agree with recycling (and do so myself) but it’s hard to trust the source. I guess this is more of an idea than an organisation though, so I hope they will do some good and wish them luck.
I just loaded this article on my mobile device. An ad on the website triggered with auto playing audio that stopped background media playback of my device. I class these type of ads as a type of vermin, and generally avoid any website that contains them. Why should I trust an organisation that chooses to run user hostile ads on their site line this to make a better internet?
Yes, that is sort of the point of the EU. Whatever I wanted though, the vote has already happened, and the leavers won. We'll all be seeing what happens to the UK as a result.
The EU is far from perfect, but the UK government has proven time and time again it requires oversight. The UK governments stance on e.g. encryption is nothing short of an international embarrassment. I am woeful for the future of this tiny island (I am a UK citizen).
There was (or is) one called Mycroft which had promised big things but didn't deliver a compelling recognition and synthesis, although the recognition seems better than synthesis from what I have seen. Perhaps because I've been on internet since early days I still use RSS (self-hosted Stringer + Unread app). I keep RSS feeds as selective and few as possible. I have a couple of dozen podcasts I listen to, some of which deliver daily episodes. I subscribe to a fair number of YouTube channels which is (mostly) good for conference talks and tutorials. Reddit I am getting close to ditching.
I am a British citizen. There will not be any significant public opposition to this, a few articles in The Guardian and a small mention on the news between Trump stories. I have only experienced apathy when I discuss mass surveillance with people in this country. "I have nothing to hide, why should I care?". There is a fundamental disconnect between real world privacy and online privacy to most people in this country. At this point it is too late anyway, May has gone full frontal assault on the internet and privacy advocates and security experts don't have a hope. I just want her to go full-on now and implement maximum surveillance, maximum snooping and maximum data retention and profiling. All of this can only blow up embarrassingly in her face. It is just a question of time. Sadly I have come to the conclusion this is the only way that such powers will ever be opposed by the public.
I've built up quite a digital collection on iTunes, all purchased more than 4 years ago when I realised my investment in content was completely locked to the iTunes platform, with no legal means to transfer the purchased content to other platforms. For some movies I paid the same price as a Blu-ray disk, for lower quality and vendor lock-in. I refuse to invest any further money into content that I am only legally allowed to access on one vendors platform, so I purchase Blu-ray versions and keep a digital backup available that can be played on vendor strategy tax unencumbered software such as Emby and Kodi. Itunes, Google Play, Amazon Movies, non of these are viable options.
I use MySQL Workbench if I need a GUI, works well and is actually more powerful than Sequel Pro, however the UI is nowhere near as pretty. Still, it is an adequate replacement recommend checking it out.
Apparently Infinality has been abandoned, and can cause problems, so might want to be careful installing it. I recently had an issue where I could not log into Gnome, I took it as an opportunity to reinstall Arch as I wanted to do a fresh install anyway, but have since found out (from the podcast Linux Action Show) that the issue was very likely due to Infinality. Just a heads up.
