I struggle finding suitable job openings due to the nature of my current role. I trained primarily as a print/book designer but now my job is split pretty evenly between both designing and programming. My current company is a small design studio (<10 employees) that produces books, websites, webapps and tools for font production. I handle pretty much all the 'digital' work that comes in. That includes meeting and conducting workshops with clients and both the design (working alongside other designers) and development (I am the only developer) processes until production.
It seems that very few companies advertise openings for people like me who are looking to engage with the entire process of a project, and it seems especially true of larger companies. Do split roles exist in larger companies or should I just give up on one and market myself as a specialist? Is it off-putting for managers and recruiters to see someone who splits their time across disciplines?
Does anyone find themselves in a similar situation?
