Ok ok, first of all "The Web" and "our source code search engine" are completely different things and ya'll fell for some rather obvious trolling/crappy marketing talk.

Second of all, not liking bootstrap is like not liking martini shakers 'cos you don't have any martinis to shake.

Just because you don't have a use for a tool doesn't make the tool useless and clearly lots of people have martinis to shake.

This trolling and bickering is very non-hacker/non-productive and ya'll need to settle.

With Haskell and Go you feel like you're part of some elite hacker community. With Scala you just feel simultaneously relieved and torn that you can functionally program on the JVM.

Also, the JVM is not an exciting environment.

The article is about setting up your own simple syncing service for non-mission-critical data like notes. I don't think you see the point 'cos:

    b) Tinkering with technology to do fun things is of no interest to you.

While those are novel applications and would probably work well in a repair situation, those things would be better managed by software that alerted you when things like "inspection time had been exceeded" or if "pressures were out of range". Having to look at every pipe and piece manually to check it's stats is error prone at best.

"You mean we have all this stuff recorded and in a database, but I have to go look at it to get the info?"

How are we still allowed to be a member of the UN? If these aren't war crimes then they're surely still crimes, just you know, not-war crimes.

What boggles my mind is how these countries allow the US to run drone strikes on their citizens. I mean, Yemen has a government and they're like, "Yeah sure, target and kill innocent people and blow cafes and shit up in our country. Cos you know, terrorism and all that."

I agree they can be annoying, but teaching that all and every use of carousels is devastating to your business is careless and wrong. All of these very profitable companies use carousels and probably laugh at the short-sightedness of this sentiment.

I don't think it'll fail. I think it's going to be a massive success for people already addicted to things like facebook, instagram and reddit. The thought of never having to miss some tiny thing to share online so you can amass a tiny bit more internet karma is too alluring to go un-utilized. The amount of 'check out what this person said at burger king' and 'look at this person dancing on the subway' videos is going to skyrocket.
